- Use hair bond to attach the loose strands for later use
- Using hair bond you can attach short-term strands for shows or photo shoots where you can re-use the hair.
- Teach your clients to take care of their hair gently, if their hair grows out, you can remove and re-attach their hair using the same or a different attachment method.
- Use high quality shampoo and conditioning treatment to keep the hair supple and manageable.
CARING FOR YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS:
If you have recently had hair extensions, whether by using the wefts and hair bond technique or individual strands with hot melt glue, it is important to pay attention to the following advice to give your hair a long-lasting effect:
1) Washing – be gentle when washing. Hair extensions are fragile and if you pull and tug at them, they will fall out quicker. Do not use hot water, opt for warm water instead. If you want your extensions to last longer, wash your 1hair every other day.
2) If you’re using clip-ons, you won’t need to wash them very often unless you’ve used hair styling products. If you need to wash them, use lukewarm water and airdry when possible. Use a blowdryer and brush to straighten the extension into its original position. Use an ionic straightening iron for a sleek and finished effect.
3) Shampoo – if you’ve had coloured hair extensions, it is best to use colour-control shampoo to preserve colour. Don’t skimp, invest in a good quality shampoo and you will thank yourself for it later.
4) Conditioner – if you have had bonded weft extensions, it’s best not to use conditioner on your scalp. Use conditioner on the hair ends instead. Conditioner makes the hair glide easier thus making the extensions fall out easier.
5) Treatments - Hair extensions have the tendency to get dry. Therefore, we suggest doing weekly conditioning treatments to keep your hair and the extensions soft and supple. If you don’t have the time to spare, try b*a*diva’s Soft Touch Hair Extensions Oil it makes dry hair instantly soft and manageable. Use a quarter bulb for each application and use as often as you like without any oily residue.
6) Limit chemical treatments - dying, straightening and perming your own hair can help you to change your look, but doing it too often (especially simultaneously can cause severe damage to your hair.
Try not to perm or straighten your hair more than once every three months. Colouring can safely be done every 6 to 8 weeks or so. But these processes can make your hair more likely to break. Perming and colouring can leave hair looking dull and rough.
Try using hair extensions to fulfill your hair colour needs and experiment with different looks without damaging your own hair!
FOR STYLISTS:
Application: When attaching hair extensions wefts with hair bond, make sure each weft is at least 2”~3” wide. If the wefts are smaller, they may fall out during washing. If you are extending the full head, use up to 5”~6” wide wefts for longer lasting wear.
Base hair quality: It’s always best to have a consultation before attaching hair extensions. If the clients’ hair is healthy and shiny, it would be best to tease the hair roots before applying the weft with bond for more secure support.
The drier and coarser the hair is (clients who have had chemical treatments tend to have drier hair), the longer the extensions will last since the traction between the base hair and extension is not as smooth.
Sectioning: For a more natural effect, if stylists are lengthening a client’s hair, the client’s hair should be at least ear-chin length to avoid obvious demarcation.
Normally, two packs of Princess Locks Remi Hair is enough is enough to lengthen a full mid-sized head of bonded or sewn in hair extensions. Two packs of Prostrands or Megastrands is needed to do a full mid-sized head of prebonded hair extensions, and one pack of Xtendtress Pre-Taped hair is enough to do a full mid-sized head hair extensions. Begin at the bottom of the neck and work your way up 1”~1.5” sections.
Colour matching: When attaching extensions for highlights, choose a colour that matches the client’s hair and skin tone. The more natural the effect, the more undetectable the result will be. We have colour rings available for purchase.
It is not recommended to have more than 3 different colours on the client’s head at one given time including the client’s base hair colour.
If the client wants to experiment, we suggest first colouring the client’s base colour to one single colour and then using extensions for highlight effects.
Wear & Tear:
Wefted extensions attached with bond last anywhere between 1~3 weeks. If you’re lucky, some of our clients have had the wefts in for 4 weeks. We would suggest that after 3-4 weeks, you remove the wefts and reattach them since the client’s hair will inevitably grow out thus rendering the weft loose.
Micro Rings Or Mini Links can last up to 8 weeks, depending on how the stylist attached the rings and how the client takes care of the extensions. If enough hair is looped through the extension, and the micro-ring is clamped tightly, there should be ample support for the extension to last for several weeks.
